Ubuntu 13.04 will reach end of life on Monday, January 27th 2014.


The Raring Ringtail released almost 9 months ago on April 25, 2013.  This was the first release with their new 9 month support cycle. The available upgrade from Ubuntu 13.04 is Ubuntu 13.10 which can be done easily by following the steps outlined at .

Another news from Canonical confirmed that Ubuntu-powered phones from Major OEMs can be expected in 2015. Jono Bacon, explains that while he would love to see major Carriers shipping Ubuntu handsets he’d be surprised if any hit the market before 2015.


Canonical has also announced that it will drop Ubuntu Touch support for various Nexus devices, with only two models to receive continued support including the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7. This doesn’t mean that installed Ubuntu Touch in your Nexus will stop working. It means that the official security updates and support will not be available. According to Canonical, this step taken by the Ubuntu Touch project so that they needs to narrow their focus on forth coming 14.04 release.

While it is also rumored that forthcoming 14.04 release will allow users to install the MATE desktop environment straight from the Ubuntu Software Centre.


For those who are not aware of Mate: MATE is a fork of GNOME 2. It provides an intuitive and attractive desktop environment using traditional metaphors for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.The details can be referred at .
